Registered student organizations can access a wide range of benefits and resources on campus from CMEI. These resources include:

Organization Categories
There are three types of student orgs at MSU Denver: Recognized Student Organizations, Affiliated Campus Organizations, and Fraternities and Sororities. Each category is granted different privileges and resources from MSU Denver. Read below to find out what category your student org falls under. CMEI understands that MSU Denver students, faculty, and staff may wish to be affiliated with organizations and entities whose primary purpose and scope extends beyond the MSU Denver mission and objectives. Additionally, some groups may receive direction and leadership from external constituencies, groups, and/or organizations. Such groups may request to be registered as an Affiliated Campus Organization (ACO).
ACOs are not eligible for Campus Events Funding (CEF), Recruiting & Promotional Funds (RPF), or special rates or authorization to reserve and use space on campus. Approved ACOs can receive some support in planning and executing events and programming; however, the amount of support is at the discretion of the Associate Director of Student Organizations and Leadership Programs and the CMEI.
Because of the unique nature of membership in fraternities and sororities, these organizations must follow the policies and procedures. Although, approved and registered MSU Denver fraternity and sorority chapters are entitled to the same benefits and privileges as RSOs, there are additional risk management, compliance, and accreditation policies that must be met for them to remain active on campus. A Registered Student Organization (RSO) is any group of students that join together for the purposes of meeting curricular, co-curricular, and social objectives of MSU Denver. Although MSU Denver supports a student’s right to free association, RSOs cannot be primarily comprised of external constituencies or led/ran by non-MSU Denver students.
Most student organizations fall under this category. They are entitled to the full list of benefits CMEI offers student orgs.
Honor societies are unique in that they usually have Greek letters and similar intake processes to FSL groups, but they function like RSOs and do not have the same liability concerns as FSL groups. The main reason why honor societies are not considered fraternities or sororities is because they are not required to have insurance policies of up to one million dollars of coverage. Presently, honor societies fall under the same category as RSOs.
Currently, CMEI is looking to create new systems for honor societies to be distinct from RSOs to recognize the different impacts they have on the MSU Denver community. If you have ideas or are interested in learning more, please contact [email protected].
Registration Status
Members can check their organization’s registration status at any time through RoadrunnerLink. Registration status is located on each organization’s portal under the “Additional Information” section. It will either indicate “Registered” or “Not Registered” under the Registration Status heading. Registration status categories are as follows.
Registered
A registered student organization is one that has fulfilled all the registration requirements set forth by the CMEI and is fully recognized and in good standing with the University.
Inactive/Not Registered
An inactive student organization is one that has not fulfilled all the registration requirements set forth by the CMEI. Inactive student organizations cannot function or represent themselves as a MSU Denver student organization. Inactive student organizations cannot utilize any campus resources provided for registered student organizations. All student organizations become ‘inactive’ on June 30th of each year until they fulfill the requirements set forth for registration by the CMEI for the next academic school year.
Pending
A pending student organization is one that has initiated the process of registration but has not fulfilled all the registration requirements. Student organizations in pending status may not function or represent themselves as a MSU Denver student organization.

Registration Windows
Early Bird Registration: June 26 – July 3 (Last Week of June)
2023-2024 Registration: July 10 – September 1
Your student org will only have to register ONCE for the academic year. Registration will only take place in the Fall. We will not register orgs in the Spring semester. If an org misses the deadline, new or existing, you must schedule a meeting with a Student Org Consultant, and we will approve or deny on a case-by-case basis.
A new student org created by a transfer or new student to MSU Denver will be allowed to register after the registration deadline. Any org, new or existing, that registers before the deadline and is denied will have an opportunity to fix their registration, per usual. Registration Requirements
In order to be an advisor of a student org, the advisor must be a full-time faculty or staff member, review the Advisor Handbook and complete the Advisor Training found on RoadrunnerLink in “Forms”.
In order to be an officer of a student org, the student must meet the following requirements:
- Be in good academic standing.
- Undergraduate Officers must maintain a minimum 2.5 college GPA.
- Graduate Officers must maintain a minimum 3.0 college GPA.
- Must be enrolled in a minimum 3 credit hours for the semester they serve as an officer.
- Has taken at least 3 credit hours in a prior semester at MSU Denver.
- All officers must complete the Officer Training once per academic year. This training consists of a short comprehension quiz to ensure that all officers know the key requirements to serve as an officer at MSU Denver.
- For CU Denver students serving as officers, please complete the quiz on Qualtrics.
All student organizations are required to have a constitution; they are vital to a student organization’s long-term success. The constitution serves as a guiding document for operating procedures and most importantly the purpose of the student org. The purpose should reflect how to aim to impact students and the community around them. The purpose may also contain history as to why the org was created, which can be immensely useful for future generations of students.

If your registration is denied, please re-submit! Our office denies submissions if they are missing vitally important information, not to deny the organization from existence.
